Vereka is a Chloromantic Spiritist and one of the protagonists of our campaign.

Physical Description

Vereka is a dark skinned, mid-seventies elven woman with long violet hair. She is covered in winding emerald green tattoos which glow faintly when she channels her magic. She is short for an elf and soft-bodied, on top of being two months pregnant. She wears a cloak with a loincloth underneath, as well as chained spectacles and gauntlets and greaves of darker green crystal. Her treasure and weapon of choice is a pulsing heartwood orb which creates and manipulates flora. In combat, barkskin armor extends from her greaves and gauntlets to cover her entire body.

Personality

Vereka bears deep emotional wounds from her home being razed. She is propelled by her belief that she can restore it. Despite periods of melancholy, she is generally bright and cheerful. She is put off by what she sees as "unnatural magic," such as entropism violating causality or the improper manipulation of spirits.

History

She hails from the wildwitch community of Silshade, which tends to the eponymous mangrove tree in the centre of a great seawater swamp. As the fourth heir to Silshade's high priestess position, she was not expected to come into power. Instead, she was an apprentice chronicler under the elder of wisdom, Crocus, and wife to an up-and-coming green knight of Silshade, Halcya. One day, fire and steel began raining down upon Silshade, and Vereka found herself ill-prepared to aid in the defense of her home. Crocus commanded Vereka to flee as the community's defenses were breached, handing her the Heart of Silshade and urging her to [starting location] to seek aid. As they led her to a secret exit, Crocus said that this conflict was even larger than just the Silshade. While she ran, she heard a terrifying wail from behind her, Crocus's spellchanting, and a great shrieking of metal. She did not dare to look back.

Character Questions

Floralist

  • When did you first discover a magiseed, and where?
    • Head Chronicler Crocus instructed me in the use of my magiseed, Hermit Iris, for the identification of spirits, elementals, plants, beasts, and monsters.
  • Who taught you how to tend to plants and flowers?
    • As a member of the Silshade, she was taught to tend to the tree and the mangrove groves surrounding it.
  • How did you implement magiseeds in your combat style?
    • Vereka's magiseeds bloom as a large ornamental ruff and collar to her barkskin armor.
  • Are there many practicing your art, or are you the exception?
    • Chloromancy was common in Silshade. I am unsure if the practice exists outside it.

Spiritist

  • Where does your magic come from?
    • My magic is a learned skill cultivated in Silshade, a place of extreme spiritual power. It has been greatly empowered through the Heart of Silshade in my care. It operates through the manipulation of spirits within allies, foes, and the world around us.
  • What are your beliefs concerning life and death? Š
    • Life and death are natural, but I do prefer when things I like live long lives. Many people and beasts do not live as long as I will, so extending their lives is as much a blessing to myself as it is to them.
  • How do you feel about manipulating other people’s emotions and vital energy? Š
    • It is a tool in a master's garden, but again, unkind to do in a way that would hurt or endanger another person. Sometimes it is fun to enact on an unruly spirit.
  • What do you think of religion? Are you part of a specific cult, church or institution? What does your magic look like?
    • I am unfamiliar with the religions of outside regions, so the cult-like religion I grew up in does not even register as such to me.

Survivor

You are among the few who survived a natural catastrophe or the attack of a dreadful creature.

  • Do you believe someone is responsible for this?
    • A human nation and their screaming metal beasts.
  • Were you able to keep in contact with any other survivors?
    • No, I was forced to flee alone. I long to know if anyone else has survived and escaped. I especially hope my sisters, my wife, and my mentor are okay.
  • Do you think reconstruction is possible?
    • I have no choice but to hope and believe it must be.
